Hi dear Palomino backers,
Thank you all so much for your support and readership! The phrase “we couldn't have done it without you!” maybe be a cliché, but in this case it is 100% the TRUTH!
So… NEXT STEPS
At this moment, all you have to do is sit back and relax until the NEXT UPDATE, which will be in a few weeks as a heads up that THE ALL-IMPORTANT SURVEYS will be coming your way.
The SURVEYS will ask you for any shipping address needed for your physical rewards, and they will also give you the opportunity to pick options if they apply, for instance choosing your art prints (and a gallery will be posted for those also), or the composition of the Retailers Bundles.
So there you have it! Things will be quiet for a little bit until we announce the surveys!
We'll be bumping fists, selling books, and no doubt, sparring with all manners of Captain Carters, each one more adorable than the last!
AND SO YOU LIKE TOP-QUALITY/TOP PRO COMICS FROM INDEPENDENT PUBLISHERS?

Hi dear backers,
It’s been a quiet week at Dark Planet Comics–OK, just kidding, it’s been insane! Thanks to you guys, we sailed past our original funding goal! Thank you for your help making sure these books exist! Now with ONLY 9 DAYS TO GO you can make sure that these books reach as many readers as possible by giving us a boost on social media!
Or you can DM me for a personalized referral link, so that the pledges lead back to you (the person with the most referred pledges gets A FREE CAMEO IN Vol. 4, remember?
Since we’re talk under the hood/behind the scenes, here’s so fun process stuff that shows the evolution of a page:
Meanwhile I’ve also been doing tons of interviews and podcasts! I love doing those because it gives me a chance to look back on the work and look at it from a brand new perspective. So for a fun conversation about comics, check out my chat with the awesome Ms. Jen on “Talking Shop!”
For more podcasts and interview, find the link by following Dark Planet Comics or myself on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
COMMISSIONS UPDATE:
There are a couple commission spots left. If you are interested in original art from me, this is the time!
ANDSO YOU LIKE OFFBEAT STUFF THAT IS TRULY GLORIOUS?
Well then, check out these cartoons! Mark Russell is an Eisner, GLAAD, and Ringo Award winning writer of comic books such as The Flintstones, Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles, Not All Robots, Second Coming, Fantastic Four: Life Story, and Superman: Space Age. He is also the author of two books about the Bible... God Is Disappointed in You and Apocrypha Now. And now he has these awesomely absurd and gloriously hilarious cartoons! But let's hear it from the man himself: “Bunkbed Mishaps collects nearly a hundred cartoons, drawn over the course of three decades, as well as several mini-essays in which I open up about my life and what was going on with me while I was drawing them.”
There you have it: the kind of offbeat stuff that I thought would brighten your day!
As you know, I rarely do commissions, so when we offered 3 of them last week, I was very excited to see that they were all quickly taken! So by popular demand, we are adding 2 commissions in the first tier:
ONE FULL CHARACTER and a prop or simple element (11x17): $600
ALSO, the top commission was pledged on by –I kid you not– a Nigerian prince. Unfortunately, that prevented legitimate backer to pick this commission, but it is now open again:
FULL SCENE (kind like a cover) with 2 or 3 characters and full background (17x22): $1800
That’s all the Palomino news for now, so I’ll leave you with a fun splash page of the series at its most classic noir.
For more that 90 years Nancy Drew has starred in hundreds of books and graphic novels and has been the subject of no less than six feature films (from 1938’s Nancy Drew… Detective to 2019’s Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase). She’s had TV shows in the 1980s, 1990s, and a series currently airing on the CW. But, curiously, she’s never had an official line of action figures… Now, with a license from Simon & Schuster, Wandering Planet Toys is launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund the first-ever officially licensed action figure line, featuring 4-inch retro style collectible figures based on the classic Nancy Drew book cover art by celebrated artist Rudy Nappi.
UNVEILING THE COMMISSION TIER

Good morning dear backers!
Thank you for a very strong day 2 yesterday! But today will be extra cool, because WEUNVEIL THE COMMISSION TIER!
As many of you know, I rarely do commissions because my schedule rarely permits me to, so if you are one of the awesome folks who have been requesting them, now is the time!
Here are the tiers, all of them original piece, INK ON PAPER, with, at the moment, only one piece available for each:
Tier #1-One full character and a prop or simple element (11x17): $600
Tier#2-Two Full characters and some background (11x17): $1200
Tier #3-FULL SCENE (kind like a cover) with 2 or 3 characters and full background (17x22): $1800
Here’s some examples of commissions or comparable pieces I have done in the past:
Single character with prop
-Two Full characters and some background (11x17)
FULL SCENE (kind like a cover) with 2 or 3 characters and full background (17x22)
FRIENDS WE THINK YOU MIGHT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT
Our dear friends at FairSquare Comics are running a campaign for an awesome crime story called the Little Rock Files! It's also taking place in an 80’s setting, and dealing with similar themes than PALOMINO, but with an entirely different approach to it, which is awesome!
Let’s hear from them:
It's 1988 and Ousley isn't looking for trouble but for some reason, it's looking for him (and potentially kick his detective ass). As if being a black investigator was not enough, Ousley also has to deal with Tia, a teenage girl with attitude. But Tia witnessed a murder and that makes her a prime target for whoever's behind that crime. And as investigation progresses, Ousley understands that what could have looked like a hate crime, goes far beyond that. As a matter of fact, it could involve big political figures in Arkansas…
Thanks to all of you for supporting this project and thanks especially to everyone who has helped spread the word. If you don’t already, you can follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook and you can also follow my company, Dark Planet Comics on Twitter and facebook.
